The BA (Hons) in Film Studies at IADT combines critical scholarship, creative practice, and professional development. The programme is structured as 75% theoretical study and 25% practical learning, giving students a strong academic foundation while developing creative and professional skills.
You will study cinema as an art form, a global industry, and a powerful cultural force while also developing practical creative skills in screenwriting, podcasting, video essays, experimental filmmaking, and creative pitching.

Unlike traditional film studies degrees, this programme combines academic study with hands-on creative work. You won’t just analyse film — you’ll make, write, discuss and present ideas through contemporary media formats.
You’ll study alongside students in filmmaking, animation, television, design, VFX and screenwriting, becoming part of one of Ireland’s most dynamic creative communities.
