This programme explores the dynamic relationship between people, their environments, and social contexts. Integrating core psychological theory with real-world challenges, the course focuses on sustainability, behaviour change, mental well-being, and social justice. Students will study how environmental factors influence human behaviour and how psychology can inform solutions to global issues such as climate change, urbanisation, and inequality. Through interdisciplinary learning, research projects, and practical placements, graduates will develop the skills needed to design interventions, influence policy, and contribute meaningfully to communities, promoting healthier, more sustainable, and socially cohesive environments across a range of sectors.
Students on the programme will engage in a diverse mix of learning activities, including lectures, seminars, practical workshops, and community-based projects. They will explore core areas of psychology—cognitive, social, environmental, and developmental—while applying this knowledge to real-world challenges such as climate action, urban design, and social inequality.
Students will conduct independent research, develop behaviour change interventions, and gain hands-on experience. Collaborative, project-based learning will build critical thinking, communication, and research skills, preparing graduates to make meaningful contributions in sectors like sustainability, public health, urban planning, and policy development.
Graduates of the programme can pursue careers in sustainability, public policy, community development, environmental consultancy, and behavioural science. Roles may include sustainability consultant, policy advisor, environmental psychologist, or community engagement coordinator. Graduates are also well-suited for positions in NGOs, local government, and corporate social responsibility teams. For further study, options include postgraduate degrees in psychology, environmental science, urban studies, or public health. The programme also provides a pathway toward professional psychology training (subject to PSI accreditation).
After Year 2, students may choose an optional Erasmus year abroad, immersing in a new cultural and academic environment. They’ll study at a partner institution, gain global perspectives, foster cross-cultural collaboration, and enhance adaptability.
