I am feeling lonely
There are times in everyone's life when we feel lonely or isolated. You may feel emotionally cut off from those around you, or feel alone. Belonging and social-connectedness are key pillars of overall health individually and within community.
What is loneliness?
Loneliness a feeling of separateness from others. You might find similar feelings such as a feeling of being abandoned or ignored, or a sense of being solo in the world. Throughout life, it is normal and natural to move and to separate from others – from our parents as we grow up, perhaps from school friends when we start work or go to college and from different partners and friendship circles throughout our lives.
If you are feeling lonely or isolated, know that despite these feelings – you are not alone.
Overcoming loneliness
Finding ways to overcome loneliness can include things you do yourself, and finding things to do with other people and to connect in different ways to yourself.
– Try something new (individually or in a group)
– Reach out to those already in your life
– Journal, express creatively your feelings
– Reach out to a support service
