IADT Students and Graduates in great demand at the 2016 IADT Employer Forum
The level of participation by employers and students reflected the vitality and competitiveness of the current graduate job market. A dozen employers from the IT/Digital Media sector participated, all keen to catch the attention of our third and fourth students from various relevant courses.
The event kicked off with a welcome from David Smith, Acting Head of the Faculty of Film, Art & Creative Technologies.
The programme for the evening followed a well-proven formula: each employer had five minutes to make a pitch to the students regarding their company’s work, the skills they require, and how applicants can make a strong impression when applying. Following the series of employer presentations there was an opportunity for students and employers to network informally in the main Atrium foyer, where each company had a stand.
Dr. Marion Palmer (Head of Dept of Technology & Psychology) captured the flavour of themes touched on by various speakers in her Twitter feed:
- Great demand for IADT graduates.
- Key skills for graduates – collaboration, team working, able to learn and engage with developing ideas.
- Job applications – cover letter in your own voice, 1 page cv and portfolio with a few clear projects showing problem-solving
- Wide range of skills needed by industry e.g. UX, designers, developers.
The companies represented were: Deloitte Digital, Each&Other, Frontend, IBM, Isobar, Iterate, Olive Media, Oliver Agency, MyDealDoc, Software Design, Visual ID, Workday
