N-TUTORR Climate Module Pilots
These modules are aimed to provide students with a basic but holistic understanding of the climate crisis, nurture emotional resilience, encourage nature connectedness, equip them with effective communication skills, and give students a capacity to imagine and create positive futures.
The first two modules, Climate Conversations (year 1) and Climate Connections (year 2), were trialed as electives in January 2024
Climate Conversations (Climate Modules – Year 1 )
This workshop aimed to provide students with a holistic understanding of the climate crisis, develop emotional resilience, encourage nature connectedness, equip them with effective communication skills, and empower them to take tangible, meaningful action in the form of a conversation prompt.
Learning outcomes
- Demonstrate basic media literacy / articulate an understanding of the concepts, SDGs, Planetary Boundaries, conduct conversations
- Demonstrate meaningful eco-literacy / and capacity to develop nature-connectedness
- Develop and demonstrate future literacy; capacity for long-term thinking
- Identify and develop communication opportunities (final group project create an artefact that can generate conversation on a specific concept – poster, book, business idea, etc. )
Climate Connections (Climate Modules – Year 2)
This elective aims to build upon an advanced understanding of the climate crisis, further nurture emotional resilience, develop a level of Eco and futures literacy to further develop communication skills, and provide tools to assess their discipline/practice in relation to the environment and climate change.
Learning Outcomes
- Develop increased Media literacy / articulate a critical understanding of the concepts, issues, and landscape
- Demonstrate an increased eco-literacy – speculate on positive futures.
- Systems map or analyse a concept
- Demonstrate an understanding of relevant complex concepts (and in a group, create a speculative site-specific artefact which communicates this empathic critical understanding)
