Brendan Gleeson was a teacher before entering the profession as a stage actor, primarily with Passion Machine in Dublin.
Since then he was worked mainly on screen and his credits include: Into the West; The Snapper; Braveheart; Neil Jordan’s Michael Collins and The Butcher Boy; The General (as Martin Cahill); Gangs of New Yorkdirected by Martin Scorsese; several Harry Potter films; Studs; In Bruges; and Into the Storm (as Churchill), for which he won a Primetime Emmy® Award.
Recent films include: The Guard andCalvary, directed by John Michael McDonagh; Suffragette; In the Heart of the Sea; and Ben Affleck’s forthcoming Live by Night.
He has received three Golden Globe® nominations, two BAFTA nominations, and won two British Independent Film Awards and three IFTAs.
