Photography Student Salem Chukwuezi selected as Taylor Wessing Judges’ Award Winner
Final year BA (Hons) Photography + Visual Media student Salem Chukwuezi has been selected from over 1000 submissions made across Ireland as Taylor Wessing Judges’ Award Winner.
Her work Unseen, Yet Always Here (2025) from the series “Covert” showcases the harsh reality for black men in Ireland, shedding light on the ongoing xenophobia and racism that takes place in Ireland. Presented in partnership with Taylor Wessing and Business to Arts, the Prize establishes a major new national platform for photography, supporting artists at all stages and bringing their work to wider audiences.
“I’m so grateful to be selected for the Judges Award and to exhibit such an underrepresented community to showcase the hidden stories to a wider audience.” Salem Chukwuezi
The inaugural 2026 Taylor Wessing Irish Photo Prize, hosted at Photo Museum Ireland from 18 April – 24 May 2026, features a central theme of “Community | Ar scáth a chéile a mhaireann na daoine,” which translates to “It is in each other’s shadow that we live”.
Shortlisted artists explore connection, belonging, and shared experience in Ireland.
