[PLACE] An Online Exhibition by IADT Photography Students
IADT first year Photography students were due to exhibit their project work along the corridors of the college. However due to the campus closure this wasn't possible so instead they have created a website to display their work as an online exhibition titled [Place].
'This project was one of my favourites of the Photography course so far. I think the class would agree that the limitation of the brief really pushed us.'
'With the lockdown happening a couple of weeks after the brief, it couldn't have been a better project to work on. I had suggested to my tutor David Farrell that I could create a website to exhibit our work since usually we would exhibit our projects in the corridors. He gave me the go-ahead and here we are now, showing our work off - but maybe not in the way any of us expected.'
- Christopher Bolger, 1st year Photography student, IADT
Context + Project Background
This brief is designed to develop the connection between the visual and conceptual elements in a body of work and to develop ideas and strategies for constructing/exploring narrative within photography.
Project Brief
In this brief, students were asked to create a narrative concerning a theme/concept of their choice and explore this via a chosen location with a very basic restriction that the entire set of images were to be made within a 100m radius. There are a number of genres that could be employed to realize this project but students were encouraged to think conceptually through use of metaphor, symbol or allegory rather than literal representations of the space/location.
