The Institute is running two events for staff and students during the week, both focusing on the interconnections between gender and race and the advancement of intersectional equality.

Tuesday 8th March 1pm
On Tuesday 8th March, 1-2pm, Ola Majekodunmi will speak on ‘Why Irish identity should be open for all’, followed by a Q&A and discussion.
Ola is a graduate of IADT and she has a very distinguished career as a broadcaster, freelance journalist, Gaeilgeoir, public speaker and creator, amongst her other achievements.

Thursday 10th March 10am
On Thursday 10th March, 10am-12pm, Dr Ebun Joseph will give a workshop on ‘Intersectionality: When race, gender, class and other intersections interact’.
The aim of this introductory lecture is to enhance critical thinking about the intersection of race and gender and how it is reflected in everyday lives and conflicts in society. Dr Joseph is a Race relations consultant, Director Institute of Antiracism and Black Studies and Chairperson, African Scholars Association Ireland (AFSAI). Dr Joseph is the Coordinator and Lecturer in UCD of the first Black Studies module in Ireland. Her recent book is titled, Racial stratification in Ireland: A Critical race theory of labour market inequality with Manchester University press.
