National Technological University Transformation for Resilience and Recovery.
N-TUTORR is Transforming Learning
The N-TUTORR national project is an innovative collaboration across the technological higher education sector in Ireland to transform the student experience, empower learners, developing staff capabilities and implementing sustainable digital ecosystems in technological higher education in Ireland. Made up of seven higher education partners:
The N-TUTORR project includes 9 IADT Fellowships, find out more below.
Meet our IADT N-TUTORR Student Champions below.
David Smith, President IADT said: “The N-TUTORR fellowship programme is a timely and welcome opportunity for students to actively participate in driving innovation and change within their own institutions and across the Technological Higher Education sector”.
N-TUTORR Fellowships
The fellowship programme provides a wonderful opportunity for students and staff to collaborate on small scale enhancement projects that aim to improve the student experience within their own institutions.
All successful projects will be awarded a N-TUTORR project engagement Certificate and a Digital Badge recognising their project achievements at the Fellowship Celebration and Showcase Event planned for April 2024. Find out more about the IADT fellowships below.
A collaborative visual arts project in an Early Childhood Education setting. Pre-school children will work with 5 IADT art students using Visual Thinking Strategies to experience shape, geometry, colour and form. To foster the development of fundamental mark-making skills, hands-on manipulation, discovery and self-expression through art materials in the well-established Poppintree Early Childhood Centre, Ballymun, Dublin.
Large scale murals will be developed by the students from the collaborative workshops, enhancing the centre’s environment.
The project aims to encourage emergent artists’ interest in collaborative arts, provide experience of the practical issues of curriculum design and delivery of visual arts in similar settings.
The collaborative FFACT Connect module redesign project will involve focus groups with student researchers who took this module from each programme in the faculty.
Topics covered during the module included EDI and Consent, Academic Integrity, Neurodiversity, Mental Health issues, Disability Awareness, Assistive Technology and Intro to the Library. Planned topics for 2023/24 will include N-TUTORR themes Sustainability, Employability, Digital Transformation and Universal Design for Learning. In addition, the focus groups will discuss module feedback.
Finally, researchers will create digital content that module leads will use in future iterations of the module and present this content to incoming 1st years.
The focus will be making improvements to the current studio at IADT, looking at ways to improve the accessibility of the studio while introducing new ways of working in a more environmentally friendly and sustainable fashion.
The outcomes will be a more sustainable print studio which is more environmentally friendly, with better accessibility, safer to use, therefore more accessible to a wider range of students.
The project aims to improve the learning and living experiences of IADT students while enhancing the efficiency of Student Support Services (including counselling, career guidance, disability support, and others).
The research will be led by a team of students mentored by academic supervisors, collaborating with Student Support Officers to create a sustainable and efficient digital service. The project includes the development of a Student Support Services app and a web-based tool for support officers.
The team will also work to increase the visibility and accessibility of the services by creating a friendly and inviting brand through physical and digital campaigns that raise awareness among students.
This project aims to develop, design and test a game-style toolkit to help students to peer-network in an entertaining and inclusive manner. To enhance the student experience by facilitating an activity where they get to know each other in an informal and engaging manner.
Building peer support networks can help increase motivation, widen participation, learning and inclusion. Students can gain voice agency, take advantage of their strengths and interests and create a safe space to make connections.
Studies examined the effectiveness of using educational games in higher education and findings support their use to enrich students’ learning experiences while improving competencies such as creativity and interpersonal skills.
Students of the creative arts are studying during a time of unprecedented change in their creative practice. The emergence of AI, the depletion of our natural environment and increasingly diverse communities, necessitate young creatives understand the impact of their practice on society and the planet into the future.
This project aims to develop and pilot a module in Ethics for Sustainable and Inclusive Creative Practice along with an accompanying set of online learning resources for students.
Student researchers will lead the project, conducting stakeholder research and engagement using methods that are empathetic, democratic and inclusive.
The aim of this project is for IADT psychology students to organise outreach activities to under-represented students with intellectual disability (ID) in the community.
This project will benefit Universal Design for Learning, Inclusion, Diversity and Digital Transformation. Psychology students will create digital multimedia materials about Digital Wellbeing. A series of interactive workshops will be conducted on Digital Wellbeing, at IADT with participants from WALK services for adults with ID.
The participants will be encouraged to talk about their experiences using social media apps and to engage with an eLearning application to learn more about safety online and digital citizenship.
The main outlines of this project are to create a student garden on campus, making sure that students learn useful skills while also producing alternative food sources that people are able to access over the course of the academic year.
Students will be coming to the garden for rest and relaxation but also to help grow various fruits and vegetables so that students are not entirely reliant on the canteen or expensive alternatives.
We want to provide sustainable food growth for students to use over many years as well as a place for relaxation between classes.
A collaborative project involving three students looking at ways to improve the student experience in the face of physical, emotional and time-management challenges.
This may include: the development of a toolkit to address stressors regarding assignment planning in the face of multiple deadlines; the development of time-out spaces, such as a VR sensory room, to better accommodate neuro-diverse students; and the development of empathy-based digital interventions to address post-pandemic anxiety regarding remote learning alienation carried forward to traditional on-campus student experience.
Content will be developed to support the prioritised issue(s), within the scope of the project budget and timeline; for example, interactive short film, a toolkit, podcasts, and more.
N-TUTORR Student Champions
The role of the N-TUTORR Student Champion is to develop student engagement and empowerment in their local institute. Student Champions will engage with the development of an initiative under one of the following N-TUTORR thematic areas:
Academic Integrity
Digital Transformation in Teaching and Learning
Education for Sustainability
Equality Diversity & Inclusion (EDI)
Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
Employability
N-TUTORR Work STREAMS
N-TUTORR’s programme of work is organised around three connecting streams, designed to enable the technological university sector to meet regional and national needs for digitisation, to cater for 21st century learning and research.
Transforming the learner experience through student empowerment.
To transform the student experience and address the key challenges arising out the pandemic including equality, access, community empowerment and climate action through the following objectives:
Promote an inclusive and accessible learning experience to enhance student success for all learners.
Transform the student learning experience by reviewing the student lifecycle through the lens of digital by design, education for sustainability, Equality Diversity & Inclusion (EDI), and regional and industry development.
Build student digital capabilities and transversal skills for employability.
Develop capacity to work in partnership and empower students to provide opportunities for HE transformation.
Transform Learning, Teaching and Assessment by Developing Staff Capabilities
To develop staff capabilities in teaching, learning and assessment using a sustainable education framework. It aims to reform academic programme provision through flexible and innovative approaches that address the social and economic needs of the regions and through development and implementation of a sustainable higher education curriculum framework across the sector.
Enable Digital Ecosystems to transform Learning, Teaching and Assessment
Focusing on the transformative development of a digital ecosystem for teaching, learning and assessment to enable sustainable education development which is diverse, equitable and inclusive. This will include the development of hardware, software and equipment to support the learning and teaching environment, learning outcomes and learning content for both students and staff.
