National Film School students win First Frames award at Dublin Film Festival
Congratulations to second year National Film School BA in Film + TV Production students on their win at this year's Dublin Film Festival.
Clara's Room which is written and directed by Pippa Moloney and produced by Cait Bird won the inaugural First Frames award. As part of the prize, Clara's Room was screened on Virgin Media One.
Clara's Room is one of six films chosen to be produced by the second year class at the National Film School of Ireland, IADT. These six were selected out of 32. This is Pippa's second time writing-directing at the NFS after her successful short 'Chase The Queen' last year.
"My goal for this film is to illustrate the timeless beauty of the everyday. To celebrate the special, incomparable relationship between a mother and daughter. To use a circumscribed interior space as the starting point for a mosaic of moments, to provide a glimpse of the life contained therein.
Clara’s bedroom is a place where she laughed, kissed, studied, slept, wept and eventually left. The awkward romances, ritualistic tasks, familial tension - the concept of ‘Clara’s Room’ came from a desire to explore the things which play a crucial part in forming who we are." - Writer-Director - Pippa Molony
Looking towards the next generation of Irish film talent, the Dublin Film Festival’s inaugural First Frame event created a new and expanded initiative for film students.
The Festival invited 17 third level institutions across Ireland to submit their students’ short films for a public screening, networking opportunity and competition to be adjudicated by an industry panel chaired by Trish Long, Vice President of Disney in Ireland.
The day was sponsored by Disney Pixar’s ‘Onward.’
