IADT Graduates get 22 Nominations for Young Director Awards
The CPI and ICAD Young Directors Awards shortlist was announced on 14th February. Now in its third year the aim of the awards are to find, award and nurture the best of the up and coming directors in Ireland today and to build on the success of YDA Ireland.
Carol Freeman’s “The Bird & the Whale” is shortlisted in Animation category. Andreas Birkenheier’s “Irish Street League” was shortlisted in the Charity Film section. Bob Gallagher’s “Iarnród Éireann ‘Dream Trips’”; Finn Keenan’s “Today FM – Oh It's On” and Ciarán Dooley’s “The Date” are shortlisted in the Commercial section. Evin O’Neill’s “Ariel – Let Them Play” and James Fitzgerald’s “Bond of Enemies” are shortlisted commercials.
Six out of the ten nominations in the Music Video category are IADT graduates: Kate Dolan for “Bitch Falcon – Of Heart”; Fergal Costello for “Brave Giant – The Time I Met The Devil and Brave Giant – Way to Love”; Luke Sweetman for “Right Spots” and Finn Keenan for “The Strypes – Behind Closed Doors and The Wombats – Lemon To A Knife Fight”. In Short Films, Kate Dolan is nominated for “Catcalls” and Laura Gaynor is nominated for Best Producer.
Finally, eight of the nine shortlisted Student Films are IADT productions: “Growing Alice” by Danilo Zambrano; “Pernicio” and “I Hate You the Least” by Dave Fox; “Andreas Birkenheier's “Irish Street League”; P.O.B.'s “Soar 'It's just a Phase'; “Jelly Baby” by Naomi Fagan and “Waiting” by Isabelle Blanche.
The winners will be announced on 22nd February.
