Certificate in Introduction to XR / Immersive Storytelling
This course is designed for learners who wish to understand the language and use of XR (Extended Reality) technologies. It is designed for non-specialists who are interested in the potential and use of XR technologies for their disciplinary field or practice.
The course will provide some history and context for XR as an umbrella term for different immersive technological practices such as VR (Virtual Reality), AR (Augmented Reality) and MR (Mixed Reality).
The course will explore:
- Hardware and software technologies for XR experiences such as VR headsets, controllers, AR and MR devices, as well as graphics engines and development tools.
- Uses of XR, touching upon User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI) principles specifically tailored for XR, along with the creation of 3D models and environments.
- The diverse applications of XR, from gaming and entertainment to tourism and cultural heritage.
- The ethical and social aspect of XR including implications for accessibility and inclusivity.
