IADT Student Supports can also provide supports to your family member as they go through challenging times.
Often what holds family members back from expressing concern about a family member’s mental health is the fear of saying the wrong thing. This fear is understandable however there is no one right way to express concern to your family member.
It could be beneficial to rehearse how you might express your concern. It could be helpful also to remember key components of empathy and active listening.
The HSE have compiled short accessible guidance on what to do when you are worried about someone else’s mental health.

IADT provides free nurse treatment through Student Health, free short-term counselling through Student Counselling as well as free learning-support through the Student Learning Centre.
External medical or psychological supports can best be identified by your local GP of health service provider.
