Anne Wright, Cliona Flood, Dr Marion Palmer, Marian McDonnell and Sue Reardon represented IADT at the event which celebrated the leading role that women play in scientific research and industry.
Representation was drawn from the universities and institutes of technology in Ireland, Women in Technology and Science (WITS) as well as some scientific state agencies and bodies. WITS is an active forum supporting women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) to reach their full potential through informed choices. WITS is proud to have Michael D. Higgins, President of Ireland as Patron and Dr Marion Palmer of IADT as its chair. A group of female competitors from the BT Young Scientists Competition were honoured at the reception by the President and his wife.
The President highlighted the achievements of female pioneers in the world of science and of the many eminent and illustrious women represented at the reception.
As experts in their fields, award winners, holders of distinguished Chairs and Professorships, esteemed researchers, writers and lecturers, the President said that these women “are breaking new ground and paving the way for new generations of women who will also wish to use their talent and creativity to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and maths, and play their unique role in crafting a better world”.
These women are the inspirational role models for the scientists of the future.
