IADT students receive 1916 Bursary Award
These students took the initiative to secure support for their ongoing commitment to learning, education and their future. The 1916 Bursary is all about being both a learner and a leader, and showing the way for people coming behind who may have to overcome obstacles and challenges to access and succeed in higher education.
The 1916 Bursary aims to encourage participation and success by students who are most socio-economically disadvantaged and from groups most under-represented in higher education.
The 1916 Bursary is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science (DFHERIS).
Students apply as new entrants to higher education in 1st year of their under-graduate degree. The 1916 Bursary was created to fulfil the ambitions of our constitution and provide access to education and opportunity for all.
“I hadn’t really expected to get the 1916 Bursary Grant when I applied, but I applied anyway. I was obviously delighted when I received the news, but the full impact of what it would mean for me going forward didn’t really register until a month after it had hit my bank account. Knowing I will have that extra income each year it’s given me the financial freedom to relax a little and breathe, the room to splurge guilt-free on equipment to invest in my future and really give it everything I’ve got, through the rest of my degree—and fingers crossed on into postgraduate studies after.
Beyond the financial support, it’s clear that IADT offers fantastic resources and aid through their student experience team and the wider staff in general. If you’re struggling, let them know and ask for help—there’s a lot they can do once you reach out.” 1916 Bursary recipient, John James McDonald.
Applications for 1st year under-graduate students 2024/2025 are open until the 10th of October 2024.
