KINOEYES Grad Film shortlisted for Sony Future Filmmaker Awards
Below The Window, produced at the National Film School at IADT as part of Kino Eyes: The European Film Masters, will compete in the Student Short Film category at the 2024 Sony Future Filmmaker Awards in Los Angeles, California.
The film follows the story of Maria (Yana Koroliova), a new mother living in isolation with her baby and encountering a mysterious wayfarer (Carrie Crowley) seeking shelter from an approaching storm. Eerie events unfold as the stranger’s presence becomes increasingly unsettling.
“We are absolutely thrilled to participate in this program and honoured by the recognition of the dedication, creativity, and passion exhibited by our immensely talented international cast and crew,” Salvador Alejandro Gutiérrez, the film’s director, shared with IADT.
The Sony Future Filmmaker Awards is a major annual awards program for short films devoted to supporting and elevating independent filmmakers and creators worldwide. “Below The Window” was selected among over 8,400 submitted films by more than 5,000 filmmakers in 148 countries and territories.
The shortlisted filmmakers, Producer Katniss Cheng and Director Salvador will participate in a major program in California, and the winners will be announced on May 30, 2024, during a black-tie Awards ceremony at the historic Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, California.

“Below The Window” was produced by Katniss Cheng Tung (Hong Kong) and directed by Salvador Alejandro Gutiérrez (Mexico), based on a screenplay by Nusrat Islam Maati (Bangladesh). The film features cinematography by Bornil Anurag (India), sound design by Mariana von Seckendorff (Brazil), editing by Zsófia Ördög (Hungary), and production design by Moira Rose Kennedy and Niall Boland (Ireland).
