National Film School students broadcast & live stream 14th National FÍS Film Awards Ceremony

There was a full house at the Helix Theatre and the NFS students rose to the occasion. The success of the event is largely down to their professionalism, enthusiasm, flexibility, adaptability and eagerness to learn.  

Students worked with industry experts for OB Unit, Set Design, Lighting Ops, Projector & Screen Ops, Jib Ops and RTE Presenter, Sinead Kennedy. They gained real world broadcasting experience that they can take forward into their future careers.  The feedback from industry contractors, NFS Film Dept. staff and FÍS Management was very positive.

Speaking at the ceremony, FÍS Manager, Bernie Meagher said “The FÍS Film Award Ceremony is an important date in the IADT calendar and it’s reassuring to know that we can team up with the NFS staff and students to deliver this logistically challenging event.  The key thing here is that working at the event is an industry-relevant student experience which is embedded in IADT’s MA in Broadcast Production for Radio & TV programme”.

Guest of Honour at the event, Dr. Annie Doona, Chair of the Screen Ireland & President of IADT stated that she is especially proud of the IADT’s National Film School MA in Broadcast Production for Radio & TV students who were responsible for the broadcasting and filming of this terrific event. This practical production activity is a fantastic industry relevant student experience that they can take forward into their future careers. Crewing the FÍS Film Awards is embedded in the MA, a production-centred programme. It is a perfect example of cross-institutional collaboration in IADT that also involves a cross section of students from the BSc (Hons) in Creative Media Technologies, BA (Hons) in Film & TV and the Bachelor of Business & Entrepreneurship programmes.
