Sustainability at IADT is clearly identified in our Strategic Plan. It is also a key component of our Performance Agreement with the Higher Education Authority, and informs our Climate Action Roadmap.
The ethos of sustainability permeates every aspect of campus life, as a guiding ethos in the we operate, educate our students and partner with external organisations. Our Sustainability Champion, Rónán Ó Muirthile leads the Sustainability Committee in following the Roadmap.
The Roadmap shows the way to improve a number of campus aspects, for instance improve our energy efficiency, reduce waste, lessening greenhouse gas emissions, be more environmentally aware with procurement activities, promote better transport choices and increase biodiversity on campus.
In tandem, education for sustainable development is being developed as a cross-disciplinary theme across all teaching programmes. Staff-student initiatives are in development through the N-TUTORR programme and numerous activities involving staff; the Public Design Lab, the Circular Economy Entrepreneurship post-graduate Certificate and elements of the Applied Psychology undergraduate programme, being prime examples.
Our research and innovation activities via the Media Cube, in relation to business development, the TU Rise programme and Elevate all include sustainability aspects to partnerships and training programmes for companies.
Dr. Sivakumar Ramachandran (Ganesh), N-TUTORR Climate Action and Communications Lead: ‘The development of a sustainable IADT, is an important step to make our contribution towards reducing the effects of climate change, by lessening our carbon footprint, promoting the ethos of sustainability through our education programmes and all interactions with external partners, who together form stakeholders in improving the environment, and thus making IADT a more attractive and responsible place to work and study.’
