Vivian Birungi | BSc Creative Computing
Why did you choose to study Creative Computing at IADT?
Coming out of Leaving Cert I was not sure what I wanted to do but knew I wanted to go down a creative route and had also been very interested in coding. The course perfectly matched what I was looking for.
What was your journey to IADT?
I came into the course straight after my Leaving Cert. I had never visited IADT until my first day, but quickly learned my way around and everyone was very welcoming and friendly.
What surprised you about the course?
The ability to have freedom to work on any ideas you wanted. Once you had an idea, you were supported in developing it and really making it your own. This really helped me learn how to think outside of the box and not be afraid to pursue anything.
Why would you recommend this course to prospective students?
If you had told me in sixth year that I would be able to create entire projects from code, I would not have believed you. When I first applied I had little-to-none coding experience and was initially nervous. We were taught step-by-step, and eventually I was able to carry out projects on my own.
What was the most fun you have had?
In first year we got to carry out a few projects learning how to use Adobe. We were able to create short movies which we all got to watch together. We got to work in teams, which really helped in making friends.
What aspect of the course have you found most interesting?
I have found both the design and coding very interesting. I enjoy how we can combine the two into one, and create beautiful websites that I never knew I could make. I also found the games design aspect very interesting. I worked on something I was genuinely proud to share with friends at the end of the year.
What do you enjoy about studying at IADT?
The warm and friendly atmosphere of the college. The staff and students are always willing to have a chat and give any help. I also really enjoy the smaller class sizes as I find it is easier to get one-on-one help.
