Why did you choose to study Creative Computing at IADT?
Creative Computing appealed to me because it offers something unique; a practical approach. This approach is different from many universities that offer computing courses, where you might find yourself sitting in a lecture hall with hundreds of other students.
What was your journey to IADT?
After I finished school. I took a year out in Glasgow and London. I proceeded to teach myself the fundamentals of Web Development, and I started my own business. I’ve been running this alongside my studies for the past four years, and everything I learn can be applied to my work.
What aspects of the course have you found most interesting?
Usually, the designer and the developer are separated, but this course not only teaches you how to build applications but also how to make them user-friendly. A good application is nothing without a good user experience. Another exciting aspect of the course is its emphasis on business. They give you a solid foundation on all fronts to help you stand out from the rest.
What has surprised you about the course?
Every lecturer put in an enormous amount of work to ensure students weren’t falling behind. They genuinely want you to succeed and worked very hard to try to make that happen. I have a huge amount of gratitude towards every lecturer I’ve encountered, as they have all worked very hard to keep up-to-date with their modules.
What’s the most fun you’ve had?
In second year, I went on an Erasmus to Hochschule der Medien in Stuttgart, Germany. I studied App Development, Game Development, IT Security and German. It opened my mind to many different cultures and has given me friends in lots of countries.
Why would you recommend this course to prospective students?
The course is very practical, anything you learn you immediately applies, which helps with understanding some of the underlying architecture of the technical tools we use every day. You are taught how to creatively approach and solve a problem.
What do you enjoy about studying at IADT?
The college offers a huge sense of community across a very diverse campus. I got the chance to meet some creative people through various societies and modules.
