Sinead McCarthy selected by Source Magazine for Graduate Photography Online

Source Graduate Photography Online, Source magazine’s platform for emerging talent from photography courses across the UK and Ireland, offers a unique opportunity for photography graduate students to have their work viewed by respected figures within the photographic sector. This year, Source invited three prominent industry professionals, Salvatore Vitale (Editor-in-chief, YET magazine), Ivy Lahon (Picture Editor, Save the Children) and Marie-France Kittler (Curator, Firstsite Gallery, Colchester) to review the work submitted by 2017 BA Graduates and the following students’ work has been selected:

These Graduate Selections are published in a supplement accompanying the print and digital editions of Source Photographic Review Issue 90 (The Insiders) and available to view in the pdf below.

Reflecting on the selection process for Source Graduate Photography Online, Ivy Lahon (Picture Editor, Save the Children) remarked, “Reviewing work from a range of institutions has given me a stronger sense of the huge breadth of themes, approaches to storytelling and aesthetic trends that are emerging…. Selecting just six projects was incredibly hard. Each of those I’ve chosen, however, grabbed and held my attention by virtue of incorporating a clear and simple concept carried out well, or because they portrayed a subject in a new or original way.”

Source Graduate Photography Online is the only existing online collection of its kind in the UK and Ireland, searchable by genre and course. Since 2007, thousands of students have submitted to the platform, while many individuals in the photographic industry have visited the website to discover new photographic talent. Editor of Source, Richard West, observed that “Graduate Photography Online in some way also represents the growth of photography as a medium within college education and any online search will also reflect distinct photographic approaches across courses”.
