Why is my print job not coming out in colour even after I selected colour?
In Windows 10 the “Edge” browser, “Photo Galley” and “Photos” applications do not print in colour due to a feature in Windows 10 and the print driver.
If you wish to print a webpage in colour use the Google Chrome browser
If you wish to print a photo using a photo viewer right click on the image, go to “Open with” and select “Windows Photo Viewer”
We are working on a solution to this issue but in the meantime the above does work

How do I check my print@IADT credit balance
There is a number of ways you can check your credit left on your account:
- Log into you online print account using your normal IADT credentials @ https://studentprinting.iadt.ie/user;
- When you use a print@IADT device, your print credit is shown in the top right hand side of the screen;
- You can also check how much credit you have in your account by logging onto the print credit top-up machines.
NOTE: When you print/copy the payment will be debited from your print credit balance.
How do I purchase print@IADT credit?
Firstly do not buy too much credit! Your money CANNOT be refunded if you do not use up your purchased printing credit.
There is two ways of topping up your print/photocopy account.
- Online by visiting https://studentprinting.iadt.ie/user (available on and off campus);
- Using cash (notes only no coins) at the top-up machine located in the Atrium building on campus.
Any balance left over from one academic year will be carried forward to the following year.
When you buy additional printing credit, your account will be credited immediately. If for some reason it has not, please email ictsupport@iadt.ie quoting your IADT user ID and the time and date you attempted to credit your account. We will try to deal with the problem as quickly as possible.
What should I do if my printing job is damaged?
If you suspect that there is a problem with an MFD or your output has been damaged, then please report it to ictsupport@iadt.ie. You maybe asked to show your damaged output to the Information Services team member.
Note: For faulty/damaged prints/copies, values can only be re-credited to your account to the value of the damaged pages.
How can I get the most from my printing credit?
- Make sure you use print preview before sending your print job to the queue, the last page may have just have 1 or 2 lines of text on it but if you print it you will be charged for the full page. You can then try and adjust the margins of your document or the size of the font to try and fit all of the text onto as fewer sheets as possible;
- If you do not want the whole document printed out use the options in the File > Print dialogue box to specify the pages that you want to print;
- You can specify the pages you want printed by typing in the page numbers or choosing to only print a selection of text that you have highlighted;
- Print double sided and in B&W. Particularly lecture notes.
- Print individual pages that need colour and not the whole document in colour.
- Do a test colour in B/W first to make sure it is formatted correctly.
Will my unused credit be carried over?
Yes.
Any unused credit that has been added by the user will carry over to the next academic year.
However, refunds cannot be made when you are leaving the Institute so only add credit when you need it near then end of your time @ IADT.
What does "No Credit left on account" message mean?
This is an automatic protection mechanism by the print system to prevent fraudulent use of your print account credit.
DO NOT swipe your card on the reader more than once. If you do, you will log yourself out again or you will receive the message “No credits left on account”. You will need to wait for a couple of minutes if this happens before you can log in again
This will also happen if you have not completed a print job successfully generally due to a paper jam or uncorrect sized paper. Again you will need to wait for a couple of minutes if this happens before you can log in again and have you credit restored. Alternatively clear the paper jam or select a different paper size so your print job is printed correctly.
How do I load paper into a printer?
If the paper drawers are accessible:
- Open the required paper tray;
- If necessary, move the paper edge guides further out to load the new paper. To adjust the guides, pinch the guide lever on each guide and slide them to the new position. To secure the guides in position, release the levers;
- Before loading paper into the paper trays, fan the edges to separate any sheets of paper that are stuck together and reduce the possibility of paper jams. NOTE: To avoid paper jams and misfeeds, do not remove paper from its packaging until necessary;
- Load the paper with the side to be printed on face-up in the tray against the left side;
- Do not load paper above the maximum fill line; in fact best to load the paper a couple of millimetres below this line;
- Adjust the paper edge guides so they just touch the edges of the paper stack;
- Close the paper tray;
- Select the [Confirm] button on the Touch Screen to exit if the information is correct. If the information is incorrect slect the correct paper settings.
How do I clear a paper jam in a printer?
The easiest way to fault find a paper jam is to follow the on screen instructions on the printer’s control panel.
To avoid damage, always remove misfed media carefully, without tearing it. Try to remove the paper in the direction that the paper would normally feed. Any piece of media left in the printer, whether large or small, can obstruct the media path and cause further misfeeds. Do not reload media that has misfed.
WARNING: The Fuser Assembly and surrounding area may become hot during operation. To avoid injury, be careful while working in this area.
CAUTION: Do not use warm water or cleaning solvents to remove Toner (Dry Ink) from your skin or clothing. This will set the Toner and make it difficult to remove. If any Toner gets on your skin or clothing, use a brush to remove the Toner, or wash it off with cold water and mild soap.
If you require further assistance email ictsupport@iadt.ie
Can I get a printer installed in my Staff office?
Yes, as long as you share an office with 5 or more people (each with their own desk + PC) and have the appropriate budget to fund the MFP.
The Institute policy since 2008 is that printers are not provided in staff offices with less than 6 people.
Where a printer is insitu historically and installed prior to this policy coming into place – once the item breaks or is uneconomical to repair it is not replaced. Users of this printer then prints to one of the many MFD’s available across the campus.
How do I connect to the shared printers from my Staff PC?
There are two main types of shared printers across campus – HP + Xerox. However there is a single print queue.
Below is a guide on how a staff member can connect or re-connect to either.
- Press the Windows key on your keyboard or click on the windows or start button at the bottom left-hand side of your screen;
- The click “RUN” application or type “run” in the search box and click the Desktop App;
- In the run window type \\Papercutsrv;
- A window will pop up on your desktop showing a printer;
- Double click on the PaperCut_Global printer, this will install the printer on your PC;
- After double clicking the printer another window should pop-up on your desktop, this means that the printer was installed successfully;
- To print make sure PaperCut_Global is selected in the Printer box that appears just before you spool a print;
- You can collect your printout from both Xerox and HP printers.
