NIBPS/PSI Psychology Careers Fair @myIADT 26, 27 February 2016
This annual event is hosted each year by a third level institution on the island of Ireland, to inform students, studying on NIBPS/PSI accredited psychology programmes, of their careers options in many disciplines of psychology, once they have graduated from their primary psychology degree.
The event was coordinated by IADT's Applied Psychology Lecturer, Dr Olivia Hurley. On Friday evening, IADT's President, Dr Annie Doona, officially opened the event. Annie's welcoming address was followed by IADT's Dr Grainne Kirwan, who gave a superb opening keynote address on the use of Virtual Reality in Therapy and Research. On the morning of Saturday, 27th February, the Head of the Department of Technology and Psychology in IADT, Dr Marion Palmer, and PSI's President, Dr Anne Davis welcomed visiting students from across many academic institutions on the Island of Ireland, to IADT. The day of career talks then commenced, with presentations given in areas such as Educational Psychology, Organisational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Neuropsychology, Counselling Psychology, Sport Psychology and Forensic Psychology. The talks were delivered by professional psychologists, and academics, working in these areas. All talks were very well received by those present. A number of academic institutions promoted their postgraduate offerings to the visiting undergraduate students.
The Department of Technology and Psychology would like to thank all the IADT staff who helped to make the event such a success for all those attending and presenting. Thanks also to the 2nd YearApplied Psychology students who volunteered on the day to direct visitors to the rooms for the talks etc. Thanks to the NIBPS/PSI, especially Ms. Anne Kerr – who coordinated the event on behalf of the NIBPS/PSI – for entrusting their event to IADT this year. Their very kind words of gratitude about the successful running of the event was much appreciated.
The Department of Technology and Psychology looks forward to hosting similar events in the future to showcase IADT's BSc (Hons) Applied Psychology, and MSc in Cyberpsychology programmes on the national, and international, psychology landscape.
