TIMETABLES FYF SCHEDULES
IADTSU and our First Year Focus Team have put together a series of wonderful and informative events for incoming students, spread across the first three weeks of term. Further information and timetables for these events are listed below. All schedules are subject to change, new dates may be added, all events are weather permitting.

HEAR/DARE Orientation

Mature Students
We will be holding a welcome and information session where students can get to know each other and IADT, as well as meeting the Student Experience Team and Students Union. In addition to this, we will be hosting a series of informative workshops for Mature Students to prepare you for the term ahead, on topics such as time management, goal setting, maintaining motivation and academic writing, amongst others.

Week 1: Induction Week
Induction week is designed to welcome incoming IADT students and assist with the transition to university life. Held on the first week of term, students will be introduced to the IADT Campus and Facilities and even have the opportunity to meet with lecturers, academic instructors, First Year Focus Leaders, Student Union Staff, and the IADT Support Staff. Attendance at the induction session is mandatory. This provides an excellent opportunity for students to acquaint themselves with all aspects of IADT, seek answers to any initial queries, receive their student card, and connect with fellow students

Week 2: Freshers Week
Freshers Week is a fantastic week of events and workshops put together by the Student’s Union and First Year Focus Leaders, designed to help incoming students get to know each other and our campus through a wide rage of exciting events and workshops.
The SU and FYF Leaders have been working hard to ensure that there is something to suit all taste at Freshers Week, as there is sure to be something for everyone! Students will have the opportunity to participate in lots of fun activities to help them integrate into the IADT community and kick off the college year!

Week 3: Welfare Week
IADT will host Welfare Week in the third week of term to provide information on Welfare Services at IADT and answer any questions that incoming students may have about the supports available to them. Students will also find out where exactly they need to go should they require access to various IADT Welfare Services throughout the academic year.

Week 4: Education Week
IADT’s Education Week will take place in the fourth week of term, and is designed to help students get to grips with the different aspects of education involved in university life, such as academic writing, time management, goal orientation and study skills, among others.
Many new students can struggle with the transition from second to third level education, however by attending Education Week students will have an opportunity to ask important questions, learn new skills and take charge of their personal academic journey.

Fáilte! My name is Lavender-Jane Gartlan and I am your next IADT Students’ Union President. I’m a recent graduate of Design for Stage and Screen, a course now called Design for Film and I’m so excited for the year ahead!
I was so anxious for my first day on campus, I didn’t know where anything was, who anyone was or even what a SU was! You might feel hesitant, or even petrified for your first day on campus but I can promise you that IADT will be an experience you’ll never forget.
We have an amazing SU team, loads of Clubs and Societies and a year packed with events. The First Year Focus team and the IADTSU are going to do their very best to make sure your first few weeks are as enjoyable and welcoming as possible.
IADT is an amazing place of creativity and excitement, filled with inspirational talent across the campuses. I would advise everyone to get involved with campus life and make the most of your time at IADT. I joined a society to make new friends which led me to work closely with the SU and now, as IADTSU President, I can’t wait meet all the new faces joining IADT!

I’m delighted to welcome you to IADT and to introduce you to First-Year Focus (FYF) – our programme of supports and activities dedicated to you, our incoming class of 2024–25. Making the transition to third-level education is a significant step, and at IADT, we pride ourselves on being a supportive, friendly, and accessible community.
You are joining the Institute at an exciting time in our development, and in the coming months and over the coming years, you will be among the first students to “study and play” in our new state-of-the-art Digital Media Building, which will open in January 2025.
As you commence your studies, we want you to experience a safe, unique, and memorable first year; the FYF programme has all the information and support you need to familiarise yourself with IADT’s inclusive culture and campus environment.
The IADT staff, faculty, and your Student Union (IADTSU) are here to support you and are excited to watch you thrive on campus. So, I encourage you to engage fully with FYF, support each other, and enjoy the beginning of your IADT journey.
David Smith
David Smith was appointed President of IADT in 2020. He is the former Head of Faculty of Film, Art and Creative Technologies at IADT. He has extensive experience in higher education and professional practice. He is principal of the widely acclaimed design studio Atelier and was Programme Chair and Senior Lecturer in Visual Communications Design at IADT until 2015.

At the centre of this programme are the First Year Student Leaders, a group of amazing IADT students whose role it is to help all new students find their feet and enjoy student life at IADT. Keep an eye out for your leaders on campus and feel free to approach them for support.

Samira Sikder
My name is Samira and I am a 3rd year animation student in IADT. I chose IADT because I loved the atmosphere and wanted to work in an environment that allowed me up my skills as an artist. My favourite thing about IADT is how easily you can make friends and collaborate with others from different courses. I wanted to do FYF again this year to help ensure that the 1st year students have a smooth transition into college. I hope to be welcoming and answer any questions the students may have about IADT or other aspects of college life.

Hi, my name is Ethan and I’m a third-year Graphic Design student. I love the IADT campus because of its community feeling, due to us having a smaller campus it gives us fantastic opportunities to collaborate with students from other disciplines and make friends. My time here so far has been incredible, it’s a place where I’ve been able to grow in so many ways and, I hope that every incoming student manages to truly embrace the IADT community during their time here too. Chloe Danga
My name is Chloe Danga, a final year student in New Media Studies at IADT. I was born in Zimbabwe and moved to Ireland 18 years ago. I chose IADT for its strong sense of community and inclusivity. My favourite part of IADT? Definitely the hash browns at breakfast! I also really enjoy the events run by the SU. I became an FYF leader because I understand the importance of support and having someone during the college transition. I aim to foster lasting relationships between students from all courses and encourage interaction as the year begins.
Adelicia Boakye Yiadom
Hi I'm Adelicia and I'm from Kildare and I'm going into my third year as a TV student! When it came to deciding on a college IADT really spoke to me because of its size. My biggest fear was getting lost within a college but I really don't feel that here.
Cian O’Meara
Hi, my name is Cian and I am a 2nd year applied Psychology student here at IADT. My favourite thing about IADT is how interconnected the college community is you get to know loads of people outside your course and year at events throughout the year or at one of IADTs many great societies, which allows you to meet a load of different people and make lots of friends and connections. I became a first year focus leader because I know how hard the transition can be to settle in to college life and last years team made that easier for me.
Karen Harper
Hi, I'm Karen, a mature student in IADT just finished a Degree in Graphic Design. I started in a photography degree, then moved to Graphic design but can't leave IADT yet so thankfully I have been granted a place in a Masters degree. IADT is an amazing place to study, with a small campus that has many linked areas, so you get to know the other students easily and staff as friends. There are many supports for a Dyslexic like me and the college is so supportive to students every step of your journey.
Orla Engstfeld
Hey there, I am Orla and a 4th year TV student. I grew up in Germany and moved over to Dublin for college so I can totally relate to the anxiety of not only starting a new course but also moving to a different country. You will learn pretty soon though that everyone is just as anxious and awkward too! The college is a very welcoming and creative space and loads of chances to collaborate and get an insight into all the different areas. If you see me around, feel free to come up to me any time for a chat:)

Hi! My name is Nicole Crowley and I’m currently in 4th year of TV. I’ve lived in Ireland my whole life, in Dublin. I’m looking forward to meeting you all & showing you around. I remember the nerves and struggles I had at the start of first year and I just want to help make you guys feel as comfortable as possible with this transition into IADT. The campus is creative, friendly and collaborative, you’ll soon recognise all our familiar faces! If you see me on campus, are lost or just want someone to chat to, say hi!
Jazz Lobos
Hi! I am Jazz, a TV Production student, and it is my second year as an FYF leader. I grew up in a very academic setting, so the college's friendly environment really allowed me to focus on nurturing my creativity. I moved to Ireland for college, so I understand how out of place many people initially feel in this new life chapter. However, students here are very passionate, so asking people what they love doing comes naturally, making conversations easier, even for shy people like me. If you ever need help or want to chat, don't hesitate to ask!

Hi I'm Helena, I'm a mature student in second year Art. IADT's ethos is inclusive and collaborative, where you will build a network of friends and future career partners. From the first day of orientation to the last day of this year, I have smiled, laughed, and stressed a lot. But, with the help of the huge supports at IADT, I have grown in confidence and strength. The work is demanding and very fast paced. The course requires drive, experimentation and ambition. I hope to share any tips or advice and help you to enjoy this exciting road.

I’m Ana and I'm entering my third year of Animation at IADT. I chose IADT for its diverse environment, creativity, range of societies and college events, and sense of community. My favourite thing about IADT is the kind and outgoing students. It's amazing meeting so many lovely creative people! I was motivated to be an FYF Leader as I found it a great experience last year, and I want to support students adjusting to a new environment as I know how daunting a big change can be! I hope to offer you all any help you need settling in.

My time spent studying here has been extremely creatively fulfilling, and I've met many wonderful people through my course, there’s always a real sense of community among students here. I know first hand that first year can be overwhelming at times, but we’re here to make sure you have the smoothest transition into IADT as possible and help you take full advantage of the resources this college offers. Hi, my name is Leaf & I'm starting my second year in Design for Film. I chose my course because I've always had a passion for costume and I wanted to express my creativity in college. I love the small community of IADT and getting to know people around campus. First year can be challenging and it's always helpful to know students from different courses and years. Hi, my name is Finn and I've just finished Creative Computing at IADT. I decided to attend IADT because I thought that the atmosphere and campus were very welcoming, which was very important to me when making the transition from secondary school to full on college. Now, having spent 2 years studying here, I am very pleased with my decision. I have found IADT to be a kind and welcoming campus, and I hope you have a similar experience here too.
Ryan Crinnion
My name is Ryan and I'm going into my third year of creative computing this year. I'm a student ambassador at IADT, and I think it's a great place to study, hang out, and meet all sorts of new people. Because of the nature of the courses offered in the college, you meet people from all walks of life, and it's fun seeing into what others get to do in their course. It's a lovely atmosphere.

My name is Caoimhe and I'm going to be in my 3rd year of Animation at IADT this year. I've met some of the most amazing, friendly and talented people in these first two years in college, and the energy on campus has really allowed me to come out of my shell. I'm naturally pretty introverted so I understand the first few weeks and months of college can be difficult, but I hope that as a First Year Focus Leader I can help people get settled into college life!

STUDENTS’ UNION
IADT Students’ Union represents and supports all students. It’s run by students with elected representatives from each class on Union Council. Its functions include representing the student body at an academic level, offering advice on welfare, finances and education. Hey! Congratulations on getting into IADT, I’m Simone James, the Welfare & Equality Officer in the SU, which you’re automatically a member of simply by being a student in IADT.
