This fund is supported by the Dormant Accounts Fund.
Who is eligible to apply
To be eligible for the student accommodation assistance:
• Students must be a member of one or more of the following groups:
o Traveller Community
o Roma Community
o Have experience of the care system between the ages of 16-18 and are
not eligible for an aftercare allowance.
• Students must be living independently for the purpose of attending third level education; this includes students renting away from home during the
academic year and also those students with leases covering 12 months and
beyond.
• Students must not be in receipt of another accommodation support e.g., HAP.
• Students must not be in receipt of this fund already for the 2024 2025 academic year.
• Students can reside in student specific accommodation,
private rental accommodation, house shares or ‘digs’ accommodation.
• In addition, students must also meet the eligibility criteria outlined in section
2.1 of the SAF Guidelines. Read HERE.
Both full-time and part-time undergraduate and postgraduate students who meet the above specified criteria are eligible for the student accommodation
assistance. Mature and repeat students are also eligible.
Students will not be required to prove that they are socio-economically
disadvantaged to be eligible for the student accommodation assistance. The
purpose of this assistance is to address one of the wider challenges of accessing third level education for minority group students.
What is included in the award?
For successful applicants the assistance awarded will be the total cost of the student’s rent, up to a maximum of €6,000 per academic year.
When to apply
Applications were open until the 4th February 2025. No late applications will be accepted.

For all applicants:
Provide your tenancy/license agreement which must include the rental costs per month.
If a license agreement is not available for those availing of digs accommodation, proof of rent payments should be provided for example, a bank statement showing rental payments or a receipt of rent payment.
For retrospective applications (for rental costs between September and December 2024) please include proof of rent for this period.
For applicants who have experienced the care system:
Please download and bring the Form for Care Experienced Students below to your local after-care drop-in service clinic or local social worker for completion, and return along with your online application to saf@iadt.ie
