Brendan Courtney
Brendan Courtney illustrates the benefits of Recognition of Prior Learning.
Using his relevant professional experience enabled Brendan to access his ideal course, the Masters in Equality, Diversity & Inclusion at IADT.
“I had been giving corporate talks on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion for many years, as Ireland’s first openly gay TV presenter and also as an advocate for older people for my TV documentary work.
I wanted to put a formal structure to my learning around EDI and came across this course which seemed perfect for my desired outcomes, which were to improve my knowledge & standing in EDI.
My good friend Linda Doyle, now Provost of Trinity College Dublin, was Head of Research at Trinity and she suggested looking into RPL.”
“Recognition of Prior Learning was my only option, in the current system, as I didn’t have a Level 8 undergraduate degree. It’s been amazing, the RPL process, while rigorous, prepares one for the style and expectation of the learning experience ahead.”
“My advice to someone looking into RPL in higher education would be – Do it! To put a value on your lived experience is a gift.”
