Dr Fiona Hackett
I hold a PhD in Photography, awarded by University College Dublin in 2012 on foot of a practice-led interdisciplinary project concerning photography, geology and Southern California. In my first career, I worked as an organisational psychologist and also hold qualifications in Psychology (UCD) and Organisational Psychology (QUB) . I have been teaching on the BA (Hons) Photography Programme since 2009 across all years of the programme including academic and practical modules.
Research Interests
My practice is interested in exploring themes of ‘the human condition’ and experiences in the contemporary world visualised in space and landscape. I have particular interest in the American West and the relationship between photography and seismology. PhD awarded project (2102) for Fault Lines: Photography, Seismology and the Imagining of Southern California. Awarded a fellowship at The Huntington, California (2016) to pursue her ongoing interest in the intertwined relationship between photography and Southern California. I am also currently exploring photography and art practice through the research and practices of women ethnographers/ photographers in the world of string figures.
