Studying at IADT
I can’t find some courses I was interested in?
Several of our courses have been renamed or have changed positioning within the programme listings but are still available to apply to via Advanced Entry.
3D Design, Modelmaking + Digital Art
Design for Stage + Screen — Production Design
Design for Stage + Screen — Costume Design
Design for Stage + Screen — Character MakeUp Design
All four programmes now sit under a broader programme called BA [Hons] Design for Film, course code DL845. We are offering these with new and improved branding, giving the student more opportunities inside the key experiences of Film.
Visual Communication Design has changed its name to Graphic Design but is still run by the same team and is listed under the same code DL826.
Photography can now be found under Photography + Visual Media.
Film + TV Production is now 2 programmes (DL843 Film + DL844 Television) but there is a large crossover between them with both offering many of the same modules.
What is the new course DL845 Design for Film?
The new BA (Hons) Design for Film has been designed to maximize resources, expertise and learner opportunity within a consolidated programme. Learn more at Design for Film course page.
What's the difference between the Film and Television courses?
BA (Hons) Film Students will focus on specialisation whilst still retaining a broad technical and craft skills base. Film will not be bound by a traditional photo-chemical process or a single mode of distribution but rather a wider approach to Screen Arts, where great storytelling is at the core.
BA (Hons) Television Students will have a broad technical and multi-platform media education (compared to film which will focus on greater specialisation).
It is important to note that there will be significant crossover between each programme with 60% + of modules shared in full or in part. Terms 1-3 are fully shared; Terms 4 & 5 are separate and Terms 6-8 will be 60% integrated.
What courses do I need a Portfolio to apply for?

How do I apply for a restricted course?
The key points are that you must have applied to CAO by 1 February 2023 at 5:15pm if you wish to apply for a restricted course. The restricted course must be included on your course choices list by that date, or added to your application using the Change of Course Choices facility for a fee of €10 before 1 March at 5:15pm.
Restricted courses normally require additional assessment procedures, for example, the submission of a portfolio, an oral assessment or interview, or a written assessment. Restricted courses are identified in the CAO handbook by the words “(Restricted – see page 3)” on the same line as the restricted course’s title.
Please make sure to acquaint yourself with the additional requirements, if any, of the restricted course(s) that you have applied for and go to page 13 of the CAO handbook for more information about interviews and assessments.
What should I include in my Portfolio?
Check out the Digital Portfolio section on our website and download our Portfolio Guidelines booklet. Remember we are always looking for your creativity to show through in your portfolio and supporting documentation/notebooks. Watch our Portfolio Masterclass here.
