Grade Point Average (GPA)
Your GPA is important for measuring your progress throughout your programme and determining your overall award classification at the end. GPA is the average grade points you have earned over a period of time (for instance a stage or your entire programme).
GPA is determined by dividing the total grade point values by the total credits during the stage (undergraduate stages have 60 credits/postgraduate programmes vary). Follow the directions below to calculate your grade point average (GPA) for a single stage. Each grade is given a different grade point value as follows:

Every module is worth a specific number of credits. For information on the credit value of specific modules please consult your programme handbook or your lecturer.
To calculate your GPA:
First take the grade you received in each module and multiply it by the number of credits assigned to that module. This gives you the number of grade points earned for each module.
- Add up all the grade points you have earned for and divide that by the number of credits. This will give you the average grade point you earned for the stage.

IADT has produced a GPA Calculator to assist students in calculating their overall GPA for summer exam sessions. This calculator is in the form of a MS Excel Spread sheet and has important information contained in the README section. You can download it from the bottom of this page.
Progression (What you need in order to move from one year to the next)
1. In order to attain a pass overall, a student must obtain a GPA of 2.00 and 60 credits.
2. D grades will need to be compensated for by sufficient grades higher than C in individual subjects/modules, so as to achieve the minimum pass level of 60 credits and a GPA of 2.00. Compensation allowed up to maximum 20 credits at D grade for the first sitting.
3. An overall result is awarded to each student. An overall result of pass indicates that the student has successfully completed the stage of study indicated on their student transcript and may progress to the next stage.
4. An overall result of fail indicates that the student must re-sit examinations in all subjects.
5. An overall result of exempt indicates that a student has achieved a pass in some modules and is exempt from re-sitting examinations in those modules. However, the student must re-sit examinations in ALL modules for which they received grade I, F, NP or D. They must achieve a grade C in each repeat module to pass and progress. All repeat modules will be capped at a C.
