BSc Applied Psychology Data Fair
An Applied Psychology data fair took place on campus this week. The aim of this event was to support fourth year Applied Psychology students to create greater awareness of their research, to recruit participants and collect data. The data fair was organised by Major Research Project Co-ordinator, Dr John Greaney and the fourth year students.
The Carriglea building was packed with students from a variety of programs who were curious to find out more about Applied Psychology and to participate in the research. Colourful projects stands were set up in the foyer and there was a lively atmosphere with plenty of chatter. According to student Muireann O’Donohoe “it was great to talk to the fourth years informally about their projects, and to help each other”.
Classmate, Orla Reynolds, commented that “the major research project topics and designs were really diverse – flow and music, experiments, and surveys, for example”. Student, Another student, Meabh O’Looney found it “really interesting to see the ways that the 4th years had designed their major research projects. I thought it was clever the way some of the online surveys indicated how long it would take you to complete the survey as you were doing it”.
Lecturer, Hannah Barton, brought her first year class to the event. Both first year and third year Applied Psychology students got lots of tips and advice from the current fourth years that they will be able to apply to improve their own studies. Hanna Oska was told that the most important thing to do is “come to class, you will get invaluable information in class”.
While Holly Urwin was advised to “do your major research project little by little in chunks rather than leaving a lot of the work until the end.”
Applied Psychology Program Chair, Sinéad Meade, remarked that “the data fair is a very important event in the Applied Psychology calendar. The team are delighted to see the return of this event on campus. It is a very valuable opportunity for peer learning and support”.
