IADT Hosts Creative Computing Workshops for Local Secondary Schools
Students from Cabinteely Community School, St Tiernan’s Community School, Balally, and Holy Child Sallynoggin, St. Killian’s Community School Bray participated in the workshops, gaining valuable exposure to the exciting world of computer programming. Led by Anne Wright, a Creative Computing Lecturer at IADT, the workshops provided a fun and interactive environment for students to learn the basics of coding and game development.
“These workshops are a fantastic opportunity for students to explore their creativity and discover the potential of a career in Creative Computing, we were delighted to see the enthusiasm and engagement from the students who participated.” said Anne Wright BSc Creative Computing Lecturer.
IADT Students Take Center Stage
The Creative Computing workshops took student engagement to the next level by featuring current BSc in Creative Computing students – Alannah Bennett, Gerard McKendry, Emma Hynes, and Laura Hofmanova – as instructors. These students went above and beyond, giving their time and expertise to plan and deliver the workshops themselves. They shared their own journeys and insights with the secondary school students, fostering a unique peer-to-peer learning experience.
The Access Office at IADT has a particular focus on building relationships and engagement with the seven local DEIS (Delivering Equality of Opportunity in Schools) secondary schools. These workshops are one of many initiatives designed to encourage students from these schools to consider a future in third-level education, particularly in the field of Creative Computing.
The workshops proved to be a great success, sparking a passion for coding and computer science among the participating students. IADT looks forward to continuing to provide these valuable learning opportunities for secondary school students in the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown community, and applauds the dedication and initiative of the B.Sc. in Creative Computing students who played such a pivotal role in their success.
