Advanced Entry is applying to gain entry to second, third or fourth year of an undergraduate programme in IADT. This is an option when an applicant has previous educational achievements and/or work experience that are considered directly relevant to the programme they wish to apply for.

Availability of places differs from year to year and sometimes, in certain programmes, Advanced Entry places may not become available due to programmes being full.

At IADT, Advanced Entry can be offered across all of our programmes, but only when places are available.

Courses accepting advanced entry can change from year to year, so not every course will have Advanced Entry places each year. In some cases, programmes may already be full and unable to accept Advanced Entry applicants.

Advanced entry applications are submitted through the Central Applications Office (CAO): www.cao.ie.

Exceptions:
The following course requires a direct application to IADT:

Current IADT Student or Previous IADT student ONLY

If you are currently an IADT student, or you were previously an IADT student, you can apply to us directly using the internal transfer form. Please note that you must include your IADT student number, if you do not know your IADT student number please contact admissions@iadt.ie asking for this. Please include your full name and date of birth as well as the course you studied. 

• If you are a current IADT student and you want to be considered for an internal transfer please submit the Add-On Degree + Transfer Application Form – Intellistack

Advanced Entry applications are assessed on the basis of availability of places in the relevant programme year and on merit.

For this reason we ask that you include all supporting documentation that references previous educational achievements and/or work experience that is considered directly relevant to the programme that you wish to apply for.

Offers for Advanced Entry places are generally made during the summer months; June, July and August. Some programmes may offer their places sooner than that. Conditional offers will be made earlier, pending successful completion of programme and receipt of final stage transcripts.

How do I submit my digital portfolio to more than one Advanced Entry course?

Once you have completed your first submission the system will allow you to duplicate your portfolio and assign it to another Advanced Entry Course. (select option in My Submissions > copy).

Will I need to attend for Interview?

Following portfolio assessment some applicants may be invited to take part in online interview to discuss their application. It is expected that interviews, where required will take place in early June.

Do I need to document and submit every piece from my physical portfolio or an overview?

We allow up to 25 pieces (pages) to be uploaded with your submission. If you have a greater quantity of work you should make a final selection that showcases the very best of your work and suitability for your Course of choice. See our Portfolio Guidelines.

Do I need to photograph and submit pages from my notebooks?

Yes – we are always interested in seeing your process work and development studies. You may consider creating a collage of pages to show the range of investigations. Or consider a short movie see Photo Tips and Guidelines here.

Should I receive a confirmation email to acknowledge that IADT have received my portfolio submission?

Yes – you will receive an email confirming receipt of your submission .

What will happen to my digital submission after assessment? Do you delete files?

We will retain all Applicant files until the end of the recruitment period – date of final CAO offered being made in 2026. Once all offers have been made all data will be securely deleted according to GDPR guidelines.
